SALD - About Us

OUR HISTORY

1970-79
In the early 1970’s a group of retailers
met to form an alliance to purchase liquor
in large quantities to receive a discount
and share the savings. Karana was formed
in 1977 by 9 liquor store members.

1980-89
In 1980, Karana moved to Maple Ave
with over 40 members who hand
picked their own orders. During the
same period, Karana doubled their
warehouse size.

1990-99
In 1992, they moved to larger premises
on South Road, Kurralta Park with a
membership of over 100. Karana then
shifted again to Hardys Road. In 1997,
a group of Hotels joined the banner
Karana and SA Liquor Distributors (SALD)
was formed.
SALD continued to grow and was forced
to again relocate to new premises at
Patricia Ave, Camden Park in 1997. The
state’s largest hotel group then joined
SALD and SALD doubled its turnover
over night.

2000 to present day
In 2003, SALD once more moved to new
premises with over 5,200m2 of storage
space at Torrensville to cope with the
increasing turnover.
